Delhi on high alert over ISIS threat to Modi, Hollande during R-Day celebrations
New Delhi: Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Thursday warned of possible terror attacks by the ISIS on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President François Hollande during the Republic Day celebration on January 26 in the capital.
Immediately after the alert by the security agency all the vital installations around India Gate and Rashtrapati Bhavan were put on high alert.
Apart from the areas around India Gate, all public places and vital installations too were put on high alert in the wake of terror attacks on Paris and Jakarta, sources said
The IB has warned that possible terror attacks will be similar to the ones in Paris and Jakarta, in which several civilians were killed.
Top officers of Delhi police and other security agencies held a meeting to chalk out an elaborate security ring to prevent such untoward incidents.
They decided to put in place several security rings including aerial surveillance and snipers to guard Modi and Hollande.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar dismissed an earlier threat which was sent to the Goa Secretariat. The letter, claiming to be from ISIS, said there would be an assassination attempt on Parrikar and Modi.
"There are no threats on me and the PM. It (the letter) was on a 50 paise postcard," he said.
The Goa Police, however did not take any chances, and handed over the case to its Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
