Hashim Amla played a captain's knock that was one of its kind in Test cricket, where one of the most prolific batsmen in all formats chose to block, block and block – scoring 23* off 207 balls after scoring his first run of the 46th delivery he faced.

South Africa, chasing an improbable 481 to win, opted time-killing as the tactic of choice to save the fourth Test having already lost the series 2-0.
